Frequently asked questions.

Let’s Answer Your Questions

Therapy Rooted in Culture, Connection & Care

You’re tired of carrying it all—grief, anxiety, trauma, generational wounds and unsure where to begin. You might have tried therapy before, but it didn’t go deep enough or didn’t feel culturally aligned. If you’re ready to prioritize your mental health and explore healing that honors all of who you are, you’re in the right place.

I’m a Native therapist who integrates IFS, EMDR, somatic, and nature-based approaches to support deep healing from trauma, grief, and disconnection. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about starting therapy with me.

What’s the first step to starting therapy?

Our work begins with a free 15-minute virtual consultation. During this time, we’ll explore what’s bringing you to therapy, any previous experiences (if applicable), and your hopes moving forward. I’ll also share a bit about how I work and answer any questions you have.

What happens in the first session, after the consultation?

Our first session is a 50-minute intake assessment. We’ll review your completed intake forms, explore your personal and family history, clarify your goals, and begin to understand the parts of you that are showing up. This session helps lay the foundation for our future work together.

What is the exchange?

Healing work requires energy emotional, spiritual, and financial. When we enter into therapy together, we’re co-creating a space built on trust, presence, and deep care. This offering reflects the years of training, preparation, and heart I bring to each session, as well as the space you are carving out for your own healing.

Session exchange:
$140 for a 50-minute individual therapy session

Sessions are usually held weekly or biweekly, depending on what feels most grounding and sustainable for your system.

Flexible contributions:
I offer a limited number of community-supported spots (sliding scale) for those navigating financial hardship.
I also accept HSA/FSA cards.

If cost is a barrier, I welcome a conversation. You're not alone, and together we can explore what’s possible.

Do you take insurance?

I don’t accept insurance directly, but I can provide a monthly superbill (a detailed receipt) through your client portal that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement if your plan includes out-of-network benefits.

CPT codes commonly used:

  • 90791 – Initial Intake

  • 90837 – 50-minute Therapy Session

Tip: Call your insurance company and ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health?

  • Do you reimburse for CPT codes 90791 and 90837?

  • Will you cover services from a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) under supervision?

  • Can I request culturally responsive therapy?

Why don’t you take insurance?

Insurance often reimburses therapists at rates that don’t reflect the time and care required for high-quality therapy. They also:

  • Require a mental health diagnosis to justify services

  • Can limit the number or frequency of sessions

  • May deny payment after services are rendered

By remaining private-pay, I can center you, not the insurance company. This allows us to work at your pace, without labeling or restrictions.

I understand that choosing to engage in therapy—and to contribute financially toward your healing—is a meaningful commitment. In a world that often asks us to push through without support, choosing to invest in your healing is radical. I hold that with deep respect and care.

What is your cancellation policy?

This space is held just for you, your stories, your healing, your time to tend to what matters. I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, so I can honor the rhythm of my schedule and offer the space to someone else who may be waiting.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are billed at the full session rate. That said life happens. If you're navigating illness or an emergency, I’ll do my best to find another time for us that same week.

Please know that our time together is just one part of the work. Outside of session, I spend time reflecting, gathering resources, and preparing to meet you with care and intention. This is a mutual commitment, and I take it to heart.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy through SimplePractice for clients physically located in Arizona. Zoom is occasionally used as a backup when needed.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Yes. In-person sessions are available by appointment at my private office in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Free parking is available on-site.

Can I work with you if I don’t live in Arizona?

Because of licensing laws, I can only provide therapy to individuals who are physically located in Arizona at the time of each session, even if you live here part-time.

How often do I attend therapy?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and a sense of safety in the work. Over time, we may shift to biweekly or more spacious scheduling based on your needs.
We’ll decide together what feels most supportive to your system.

What types of therapy do you provide?

I integrate the following trauma-informed, experiential approaches:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Somatic IFS

  • EMDR

  • Nature-based and ecotherapy practices

  • Sandtray therapy

  • Play therapy

All of my work is grounded in relational, culturally responsive care that honors the whole of who you are.

I’m not Native American. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely! While my practice centers Native and BIPOC healing, my approach is inclusive, relational, and trauma-informed. If you're drawn to inner work, mindfulness, or reconnecting with your full self, we may be a great fit.

What does “under supervision” mean?

Because I’m in the process of becoming independently licensed in Arizona, I work under the guidance of a Board-approved clinical supervisor. This means I receive regular support to ensure I’m offering ethical, thoughtful care and your privacy and well-being are always protected.

If you have any questions about what this means or how it works, I’d be happy to talk more. Just ask.
